Hi,

Any suggestions for a good yet economical latency soundcard for using Cubase ? I use PC and am in Sydney OZ.

I am trying it out now with a SB live Value card and it is okay but after a while develops a second delay on the input channel. When I restart the program it is fine again for a while.

If I want to record say 4 at once do I need a card for that or can I use a mixer.

The studio we use has a Mac with a firewire card to his HDrives.

I don't want to spend big bread until I know I can get a good result without problems. This is home setup anyway, not for commercial stuff.

Thanks,

Oz

i'm not sure that 'ecconomical' and 'low latency' go together... but here's a couple of things to look at... and for value for money i reckon you should go for 8 channels instead of 4

for firewire check out echo's audiofire8
http://www.echoaudio.com/Products/FireWire/AudioFire8/index.php

also check out behringer ada8000

not sure how much these cost in australia... you could try talking with the ppl at http://www.musicianswarehouse.com.au/ ... but the aussie stores charge more than the american ones

Latency is somewhat related to the speed of your machine, the settings for buffering and the operating system you are using.

I have two RME Hammerfall cards and neither of them work as well latency wise as my Korg1212 running through os9 on a Mac G4 running Logic Audio as there is a specific driver within Logic that addresses the Korg 1212 card directly. The latency has never been mentioned by anyone that I have recorded but one person mentioned the latency on one of the Hammerfall cards.

Audio card latency figures are very important but will do nothing in reducing the latency through a slow computer with a clumsy operating system...
